'I didn't cheat': IAS officer slaps student repeatedly during exam in Madhya Pradesh; watch

BHOPAL: A video showing Bhind district magistrate and IAS officer Sanjeev Srivastava slapping a student multiple times during an exam in Madhya Pradesh has gone viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place on April 1, during a BSc 2nd-year Mathematics exam at Deendayal Dangraulia Mahavidyalaya. The video shows the officer dragging a student from his seat and slapping him repeatedly. The student, identified as Rohit Rathore, was later taken to another room, where the DM handed over his answer sheet to staff while pointing towards him. The districts of Bhind and Morena in the Chambal region are often in the news for reports of mass cheating during board and university examinations. Speaking to TOI, Srivastava said, “We received a tip-off that mass cheating was going on at the college. We went there, but to our surprise, everything appeared to be normal. Everyone was sitting quietly in the examination hall—it was a mathematics paper.” “I noticed that only this student did not have his question paper. When questioned strictly, he admitted that he had sent his paper outside to be solved and the answers were to be dictated back to others,” Srivastava added. He further said, “The action was taken to curb mass cheating. Everyone was involved. The person seen in the video had sent his paper outside. I have also written to Jiwaji University, requesting action against the college.” Sources said the college is owned by Narayan Dangraulia, the father-in-law of Hemant Katare, deputy leader of the opposition in the state assembly.‘Slapped me twice, then took me downstairs and slapped me again’“I went to the toilet. I had left my question paper on the table, but when I returned, I couldn’t find it. That’s when the district collector came. One student had two question papers during the checking. I was sitting at the second table and had no question paper. Sir made me stand up, slapped me twice, then took me downstairs and slapped me again. I got hurt and took some medicine from my father, who runs a medical shop,” the student, Rohit Rathore, said in the video while speaking to media persons.Denying the allegation that he had sent his question paper outside, Rathore told the media, “I had not sent the paper outside. I got a supplementary and will have to take the exam again.”
