‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ has continued its extraordinary box office run, entering its second weekend as the highest grossing Indian film of the year.

The Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna film that clocked Day 8 in theatres today, has amassed an estimated total collection of Rs 689.44 crore net in India across all languages. The film, opened to an impressive Rs 164.25 crore on its first day. The first extended weekend saw the film rake in Rs 529 crore net, breaking multiple records. While weekday collections showed a gradual decline—earning Rs 64.45 crore on Monday, Rs 51.55 crore on Tuesday, and Rs 42 crore on Wednesday—Pushpa 2 remains a box office juggernaut.

On Day 8, it added another Rs 2.44 crore net from morning shows alone, with expectations of a significant boost from evening screenings, potentially pushing the day’s total past Rs 40 crore. According to reports, the film also recorded the second-highest first Tuesday collection of all time and the highest for a non-holiday release. The only other film to cross the Rs 30 crore nett mark on a first Tuesday was the Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’.
In terms of regional contributions, the Hindi-speaking markets lead the charge, followed by Telugu and Tamil. Kannada and Malayalam collections are comparatively lower.
The film has achieved a staggering worldwide collection of Rs 1,062 crore, entering the coveted Rs 1,000 crore club within just six days of release. This milestone makes it the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024, surpassing ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ which earned an estimated Rs 1,042.25 crore lifetime collection.
A few days ago, Pushpa 2 crossed the US $10 million mark, securing the 11th spot among the biggest Indian hits in North America. Now, on its 7th day, the film has surpassed Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani to claim the 10th position. Karan Johar’s directorial has earned US $10.6 million in its lifetime collection, while the Allu Arjun-Rashmika Mandanna starrer, directed by Sukumar, has now earned US $10.8 million.
In North America, the film continued its impressive run, earning an estimated $311,521 from 656 locations on Day 7, further solidifying its global box office dominance.
With this feat, all eyes are on whether ‘Pushpa 2’ can surpass Dangal’s Rs 2,070.3 crore lifetime worldwide collection to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
Since its release, Pushpa 2: The Rule has been a massive success, quickly becoming the year’s biggest hit, surpassing Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2, which earned nearly Rs 600 crore. The film has now claimed the 4th spot as the highest-grossing film in Indian cinema, surpassing Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone.
Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the movie is performing just as well as the Telugu one. After a strong opening weekend and a solid 4-day run, it has outperformed in Mumbai, surpassing the Andhra and Nizam regions.
‘Pushpa 2’ is now competing with other blockbusters in the Rs 1,000 crore club, including ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ whcih earned Rs 1,788.06 crore, ‘RRR’ which earned Rs 1,230 crore, ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ with its earning estimated at Rs 1,215 crore, Jawan’s total of Rs 1,160 crore and Pathaan earning Rs 1,055 crore.
Pushpa 2 is the sequel to the 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise. It follows the story of Pushpa Raj, a laborer who joins a red sandalwood smuggling gang as a low-ranking member. However, he quickly rises through the ranks to lead the group. As his name gains recognition, his list of adversaries grows, with each one trying to put him in his place or even take his life. Despite these challenges, Pushpa continues to rise to the top. Alongside his professional journey, he also marries the love of his life, Srivalli.
To celebrate the film’s box office success, actress Rashmika Mandanna, who reprises her role as Srivalli in the sequel, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming love and appreciation from fans. Taking to Instagram, she shared pictures of herself in a burnt orange saree with a heartfelt caption, “Thank you for all your love for Pushpa and Srivalli, guys! If you’ve watched it, I hope you enjoyed it, and if you haven’t, please go watch it. Loads of love, my loves!”
With the weekend just around the corner, it remains to be seen if the film can pick up its pace at the box office.
The Allu Arjun-led film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, and Jagapathi Babu in prominent roles. The makers have already announced the third installment of the franchise, titled Pushpa 3: The Rampage.
Trade experts believe the next Hindi film likely to challenge the numbers of Pushpa 2 is War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra. Featuring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr, and Kiara Advani, the film is expected to appeal to both Hindi and South cinema audiences, effectively catering to both markets.
