NEW DELHI: Delhi witnesses a decline in overall crime during the first six months of 2025 since the Bharatiya Janata Party took over the administration, making it a double-engine government. An 8.38 per cent reduction in crime compared to the corresponding period in 2024, including a notable 10 per cent decrease in rape and POSCO cases.The BJP came into power in Delhi on February 8, 2025 and made a major comeback in the state after more than 26 years. The BJP won 48 seats out of 70. The Delhi police comes under the Central government but with enhanced tools it became easy for the officials to work smoothly.According to PTI citing Delhi Police statistics, between January 1 to June 30, 2025, authorities registered 1,18,822 cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Indian Penal Code (IPC), showing a reduction of approximately 10,000 cases from the 1,29,693 cases recorded in 2024.Serious offences including murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping decreased by 13.13 per cent compared to 2023 and 10.39 per cent relative to 2024. However, murder cases increased from 241 to 250 in 2025, whilst rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases showed a 10 per cent reduction.The statistics revealed a decline in crimes against women, with molestation and eve-teasing cases decreasing by approximately 11 per cent and 12.5 per cent respectively.There was a significant reduction in street crimes, with snatching incidents decreasing by 25.97 per cent from 3,381 to 2,503 cases. Burglary cases reduced by 25.4 per cent from 4,271 to 3,186, while motor vehicle thefts decreased by 5.98 per cent from 18,626 to 17,512.The overall reduction in crime rates was attributed to enhanced surveillance, strategic data-driven patrolling, community engagement programmes and systematic action against repeat offenders.
