Man Steals Electricity Transformer to Avoid Power Cut in Madhya Pradesh | Bhopal News
BHOPAL: A man allegedly stole an electricity transformer and took it home to prevent power disconnection over unpaid dues. The incident took place under the Aswar power distribution centre of the Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company in Bhind district.The accused, identified as Shriram Bihari Tripathi of Rawatpura village, reportedly removed a 25 kV transformer that was installed under a govt grant scheme for temporary agricultural use. Officials said the transformer, fully owned by the discom, was dismantled and taken away with the help of his son, Sonu Tripathi.Assistant Manager of the Aswar distribution centre, Abhishek Soni, filed a complaint at Rawatpura police station, stating that the accused owes Rs 1,49,795 in unpaid electricity bills. Anticipating that the transformer would be seized due to the dues, the accused allegedly tampered with the electrical lines and hid the equipment at his residence.The company lodged an FIR under Section 136 of the Electricity Act, 2003, for obstructing official work and illegally removing govt property. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. However, they are yet to recover the stolen transformer.“A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections and efforts are on to recover the transformer. We are hopeful of recovering the transformer soon,” Rawatpura police station incharge, Kamalkant Dubey, told TOI.
